DIY | October Makes ...

Oh how I do love autumn! Frosty evening walks, crunchy golden leaves on the ground and wrapping up in your favourite knitted item. What's not to love about this season?

This month I am dusting off the knitting needles and buying some gorgeous new wool ready to make some winter warmers for friends and family. I have already started a few hats in this vibrant chartreuse green.

I love knitting, and having only learnt last winter, I feel proud of how far I have come and how much I have learnt since then. Although I still have a long way to go. I have only just about mastered a hat and headband.
Being a textile designer you can imagine my excitement when I spot a yarn colour I like, I just have to buy it and start experimenting.

Thats the great thing about knitting you can mix and match textures, colours and techniques to create something really original. Chunky and super chunky yarns are my favourite to play around with as you can quickly see a design come to life. I am often impatient and cant wait to see the finished design.
For these hats I casted on 66 stitches then I used a two by two rib technique then switched to garter stitch for the main body. I followed a simple pattern to reduce then added a contrasting pompom to the top.

Have you started knitted ready for winter yet?
